Most Malaysians were relieved when the Court of Appeal released Sam Ke Ting on an RM10,000 bail a couple of weeks ago. As of now, the matter has been set for case management on 11 May in the Court of Appeal.

Just today (5 May), it was revealed that former Federal Court Judge, Datuk Sri Gopal Sri Ram, will lead a team of lawyers in the appeal and represent Ke Ting.

According to The Edge Markets, lawyer Harvinderjit Singh confirmed that Datuk Sri Gopal has agreed to represent Ke Ting in the appeal and they will be providing their services pro bono.

Ke Ting’s legal team will include Datuk Sri Gopal as the lead, Harvinderjit Singh as well as her current lawyer Muhammad Faizal Mokhtar, who has been representing her since the start of her case.

“The team will ask for appeal records in preparations for the case & a petition of appeal will be filed after that. If necessary, we will also add questions of law to be argued during the appeal,” Harvinderjit added.

To quickly recap, last month, Ke Ting was sentenced to 6 years of jail time, a fine of RM6,000 and a 3-year driving ban for reckless driving that led to the death of 8 teenagers on basikal lajak in Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, Johor Bahru at 3.20 am on 18 February 2013.

An online petition was immediately launched for her release before she was eventually released by the Court of Appeal
