With so many interesting news going around, the country is going to run out of popcorn soon!

Today (14 May), former Federal Court Judge Gopal Sri Ram has urged the newly-formed government to look into the Scorpene submarine deal and the former prime minister’s ex political analyst and adviser, Abdul Razak Baginda. Jeng jeng jeng…

According to Malaysiakini, Sri Ram believes that the previous government had misappropriated some funds, which has yet to be recovered.

“I have in mind the huge bribes that were obtained in the Scorpene deal. Those monies were acquired through a criminal act and as such, should be recovered.

“Just as the elusive Jho Low is intrinsically connected to 1MDB, Abdul Razak has an equal connection with the Scorpene deal. It is my respectful view that he should be sought and interrogated as to the whereabouts of those funds,” the former top judge said.

In case you’re wondering what the submarine deal was all about, it happened when Najib Razak was the defence minister between year 2000 and 2008. Two Scorpene-class submarines and an Agosta-class submarine were purchased for nearly RM5 billion.

“The sale of two Scorpene submarines and an Agosta submarine to Malaysia was the most expensive military procurement by Malaysia to date, costing nearly RM5 billion for the hardware plus more than RM2 billion for the training of operatives and maintenance of the submarines,” Suaram adviser, Kua Kia Soong said.

That’s not all, because the former judge also asked the authorities to look into other areas related to this case.

“This includes the handing over of suitcases of cash, coupled with a spending spree in Paris as well as the dastardly murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

“One may well ask why former attorney- general Abdul Gani Patail did not secure the arrest and detention of two police officers pending the public prosecutor’s appeal to the Federal Court,” he added.

The two police officers mentioned above are former chief inspector Azilah Hadri and corporal Sirul Azhar. They were found guilty of murdering Altantuya and were sentenced to death, but Sirul managed to flee to Australia.

As of now, he is currently ‘safe’ there as the Australian law doesn’t allow those facing a death penalty to be extradited home.

These are some serious allegations that the new federal government should investigate so that justice can be served for Altantuya, 12 years after she was murdered.
