Four Fined RM10,000 Each For Not Practicing Physical Distancing At Johor Entertainment Centre

Four Malaysians were fined RM10,000 each for not practising physical distancing in an entertainment centre while the owner of the premises was fined RM50,000.

According to Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain, police raided the entertainment centre at Jalan Persiaran Southkey 1, Kota Southkey, Johor Bahru at 3.30am on 22 March.

A total of 69 visitors were having fun and drinking alcohol at the premises, including 44 Indonesian men and 20 Indonesian women aged 21 to 51. All of them were arrested, reported Harian Metro.

All Indonesian visitors were then screened by authorities to check their records of movement in and out of the country through the Malaysian Immigration Department.

Mohd Padzli added that all individuals were put through a urine test, where all of them tested negative for drugs.

Meanwhile, the case is being investigated in accordance with Regulation 16 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for violating the conditions of the CMCO and Section 6 (2) of the Johor State Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 4/98 and Section 6 (1) (c) Immigration Act 1959/63.

Previously, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced more detailed specifications regarding compounds made under the Emergency Ordinance 2021. He said that,

  • First-time offenders and individuals who do not wear masks will be fined RM1,500.
  • Those who do not register themselves or use the MySejahtera app to check-in will be fined RM1,500.
  • Those who do not adhere to physical distancing will be fined RM1,500.

However, the Ministry of Health later announced that individuals who go to nightclubs or pubs will be faced with the maximum compound fine of RM10,000, while the management of these premises will be fined RM50,000.
