As the number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise in Malaysia, the Ministry of Health reports four new Covid-19 clusters in one day.
The details of each cluster are as follows:
Jalan Bomba Cluster, Sabah
The index case of this cluster (case 11,110) is a Malaysian man who travelled to Semporna, Sabah on 20 September. He began experiencing fever and cough symptoms on 28 September and tested positive for Covid-19.
He was then admitted to Hospital Duchess of Kent in Sandakan.
Close contact screening detected two positive cases related to the man on 28 September. The two individuals have yet to be identified while close contact screening conducted by the Sandakan Health Office is still ongoing.
Jalan Utara Cluster, Sabah
This cluster was detected after the screening was conducted among health workers at a training institute in Sandakan, Sabah. Two health workers tested positive for Covid-19 on 28 September and were admitted to Hospital Duchess of Kent in Sandakan. The origin of the infection is still under investigation.
Benteng PK Cluster, Selangor
This cluster was detected as a result of screening conducted on illegal immigrants in Klang, Selangor. The screening took place from 16 to 25 September, where eight illegal immigrants tested positive for Covid-19.
Close contact screening then detected one more positive case on 28 September involving a police personnel.
All patients in this cluster have been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.
So far, a total of 148 individuals have been tested where nine tested positive, 19 tested negative while 139 are still awaiting results.
Bakawali Cluster, Johor
The index cases for this cluster (case 10,911 and case 10,912) are a Malaysian couple who travelled to Semporna, Sabah on 13 to 18 September.
On 24 September, both of them began experiencing fever, flu and cough symptoms and went for treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru.
They then tested positive on 26 September and were admitted to Hospital Hajjah Kalsom General Enche in Johor.
Results of close contact screening detected two more positive cases in this cluster.
As of 29 September, a total of 25 individuals have been screened. Results revealed that four individuals tested positive, 13 tested negative while eight are still awaiting results.
Infection prevention measures including disinfection process and cleaning process have been carried out at the locations involved. The cause of infection is still under investigation for all clusters.
