A few days ago, Pasar Jalan Othman at Taman Megah was shut down after a trader tested positive for Covid-19.

Now, there have been four more people from the popular wet market who have tested positive for the virus, reported The Star. This comes after tests were carried out at the market on 29 April for the selected 151 traders, council workers and cleaners.

The four who tested positive are a food trader, two fishmongers and a Petaling Jaya City Council cleaner.

However, the testing conducted on 29 April only involved traders from the seafood and food stall section. This caused great dissatisfaction among other traders at the market, who expressed that they too need to be tested.

One of them is 35-year-old vegetable seller, R.Sathiya, who said he would take the opportunity to get himself tested at the health clinic.

“All of us should have been tested the same time. My dad and I are vegetable sellers hence we were not allowed to be tested on Wednesday (29 April),” he said.

“My dad tested in the private hospital much earlier. However we may take this opportunity to get tested at the government clinic.”

Now, because of the four positive cases, the Petaling District Office has decided to carry out screening and tests for all traders and their assistants at the market which includes 1,500 traders.

“We now invite all the 1,500 traders in the market to come to Klinik Kesihatan Kelana Jaya for their screening and testing starting Friday (May 1),” said Petaling district disaster management committee chairman Johary Anuar.

“We have sent them a notice.”

He added that the public who visited the market between 4 to 18 April are also welcomed to do screening by filling up the online form at here. Meanwhile, the market will be closed until further notice.
