As the hunt for local man of mystery Jho Low continues, it turns out that the authorities may have a pretty good lead on where the fugitive millionaire may be hiding since the global manhunt for him started when the 1MDB scandal broke cover.
According to reports by The Sarawak Report and Malaysiakini, it has now been revealed that Jho Low allegedly holds a Cypriot passport! For those of you who don’t know where that is, Cypriot refers to people who are living in the nation of Cyprus.
It has been said that the entire scheme was planned by global passport and citizenship brokers Henley & Partners, whom Jho approached right after the 1MDB fiasco was made public knowledge in 2015. By applying through the Cyprus Investment Plan, it is said that Jho was then offered a passport from Cyprus.
As you can imagine, this has put a lot of criticism on the company who arranged the deal, given the fact that Henley & Partners doesn’t apparently care about the fact that Jho Low is a wanted fugitive in Malaysia for his involvement in the billions that went missing during 1MDB’s operations. But it was also said that the passport application process happened before Jho was officially accused of being involved in 1MDB.
It is further explained that applicants for the passport program must have a clean criminal record as provided by their own countries of origin and countries of residence prior to applying.
As part of the Cyprus Investment Program, Jho was expected to deposit 5 million Euros (RM23 million) into a bank in Cyprus for 3 years and have a permanent home worth 500,000 Euros (RM2.3 million).
Jho Low managed to meet all the criteria expected of him, and is even said to be commissioning the construction of a huge, luxurious 5 million Euro (RM23 million) mansion in Cyprus! But whether Jho is currently staying in Cyprus remains unknown at this point.
We hope that with this new information, the authorities will come one step closer to bringing this international fugitive to justice!
