A fire brigade in Germany went on a wild goose chase after the smell of durian led to them being called 4 times on Saturday (4 October), over concerns of a gas leak.
According to a report by DW News, patrons of a shopping centre in the city of Wiesbaden, located in western Germany, became anxious upon detecting a smell resembling a gas leak, leading the fire brigade to be called to the scene.

However, the fire brigade’s instruments did not detect the presence of gas and noted the shopping centre’s lack of a gas connection.
After leaving the scene upon determining that there was no gas leak, the fire brigade was called in again due to the same concerns about the smell of gas.

Finally, they decided the search through the shops and found durians in an Asian supermarket.
The fire brigade then concluded that the smell of the durians was being dispersed throughout the building by the shopping centre’s ventilation system.
The same incident happened at a residential building on the same day
On the same day, the fire brigade was also summoned to a residential building after residents reported smelling gas, though it was ultimately discovered that the smell came from a durian purchased by one of the residents.
