Sometimes, it does not take much to try and save the environment. From using metal straws to tapau-ing with your own container, these small steps can reduce the daily rubbish output if everyone does them.
However, there are individuals who are either ignorant or indifferent to the state of our planet. In the end, that’s the biggest challenge that we are currently facing — people’s mindset.
Recently, a girl by the name of Syaffiqa tweeted about the experience of her friend who brought her own mesh shopping bag to buy groceries. But instead of applauding her effort, the supermarket workers laughed at her. One of them even said,
“Why is she using mesh bag? Can it even be used in a supermarket? Just use plastic bags.”
Her friend simply ignored them and did not let their comments dampen her spirit to help the environment.
“Shame on them for living life without a damn about anything. Let me the odd one out simply for using a mesh bag.”
Apparently, other people have gone through similar experiences as well, as seen in their replies to Syaffiqa’s tweet.
Only in the darkness can you see the stars. Although the girl had an unpleasant experience at the supermarket, her tweet shows that many of us are doing our part and face similar obstacles. But we can’t let a few ignoramuses demotivate us from our mission. Let’s work together to understand and educate them too!
