For many Malaysians, moving houses can be a distressing and tedious experience due to finances and having to let go of a place that they’ve called their home for years.

And while it is understandable for the authorities to want to develop certain spaces, shouldn’t it only be right that they provide those living there with proper compensation and time to move out of their homes before development work begins?

PAS Selangor recently took to their Twitter page to showcase the plight of the residents of Kampung Sri Makmur Gombak, after their homes were demolished by the Selangor state government, after apparently not compensating them properly and allegedly not following through on their promise to provide the residents with alternative housing.

They wrote, “Residents’ houses in Kampung Sri Makmur Gombak were demolished. What upsets the residents is their right to get proper compensation before being ordered out. They were once promised alternative housing by the Selangor MB before last year’s state elections.”

“What happened was that they were only given a moving incentive of RM1,000 recently and only 14 families received it. There are still some who have not been given anything. The money was given on Friday and it is mandatory for them to move out by Monday.”

They went on to question how the small amount of RM1,000 would help the families to manage their move, especially with such a limited time given.

“It’s not like the people do not want to comply but they want to be given the right to discuss and negotiate. Despite being the initial residents and settlers of the kampung for more than 35 years, they complied with the landowners,”

“Let there be appropriate consideration for human beings and the people in this country to make their affairs easier. This is not a temporary bachelor rental house, this is a kampung home that has been cultivated and lived in for a long time. Imagine seeing your own home demolished in front of your eyes with little compensation,” they explained.

PAS Selangor added that the Selangor state government failed to protect 30 defenseless families.

Do you think it is right for the authorities to demolish homes after giving the families living there only RM1,000 and mere days to move?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
