When the number of daily cases rises, our worries rise as well.

In order to curb that worry, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation made updates to the MySejahtera app with something called HIDE. It is the abbreviation of Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement. HIDE uses Big Data and Artificial Intelligence paired with contact tracing to predict the emergence of clusters.

This will allow the authorities to take targeted pre-emptive measures to avoid the emergence of new clusters or hotspots.

Other than that, the government will also be releasing the list of premises that could potentially produce clusters, such as shopping malls or eateries starting from 7 May. This is to make sure that store owners/managers will be able to conduct stricter crowd control and for the staff to have mass swab tests. The release of the list will also allow the public to take their own preventive measures.

The statement had also mentioned that early intervention will be able to prevent the closure of the premise or lockdowns with tighter measures. On 3 May, HIDE managed to detect 1,660 hotspots with the potential to become clusters in the nation. Through the data collected, they were able to ascertain that 90% of the cases were spread in 0.2% of the registered premises on MySejahtera.

To ensure that the HIDE system can be more accurate, the government is asking for all premises to register on MySejahtera.

We think that this is a good preventive measure, but what are your thoughts and concerns with HIDE? Let us know in the comments.
