Transport Minister Anthony Loke suggested that Malaysians show their MyKad when purchasing subsidized RON95 petrol.

The targeted subsidy mechanism for RON95 is still under review and is expected to be implemented by mid-next year. The suggestion to show MyKad is to differentiate between Malaysians who are eligible for petrol subsidies and foreign citizens who are not eligible for subsidised petrol.

“When you go to the petrol station, just like you insert a credit card or BonusLink card, you only need to insert your MyKad for the subsidized price to be displayed.”

This matter was discussed right after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Minister of Finance, announced the implementation of targeted subsidies for RON95 in the 2025 Budget yesterday, reported The Edge Malaysia.

Anwar said that the current subsidies benefit the wealthy and foreign citizens. Through this targeted subsidy approach, the funds allocated will provide more precise benefits to 85% of Malaysians.

What do you think of using MyKad for authentication?
