When it comes to greatest rivalries, Malaysians and Singaporeans are definitely a pairing you wouldn’t forget to mention. Yet, in crucial times like this, it’s encouraging to see how we’re all able to put aside our differences and come together for the sake of compassion.
As many of you know, the Movement Control Order announced by the government officially takes effect today (18th March) and many working Malaysians are perplexed at where this leaves them, especially for those who feed their families and make a living with jobs on the other side of the Causeway.
But along with this tragic dilemma comes the unity of two nations who stand in solidarity with one another amidst the global Covid-19 crisis. Recently, SGAG took to Facebook to share a heartwarming message from Singaporeans for the hardworking Malaysians who are staying in their country during the Order so they can keep earning money to send back to their families.
Many Singaporeans responded in agreement to the post, showing their overwhelming support for us Malaysians during this trying time:
Working Malaysians have also responded to the post, thanking Singaporeans for their kindness.
One Malaysian even shared her brother’s experience of being welcomed by our neighbours on the other side, “My brother packed his things and left to Singapore few hours ago from JB. And got a place to stay here for 2 weeks. This means a lot to my family. Thank you Singapore.”
Kudos to Singaporeans for showing the love to Malaysians during this difficult time. As for all working Malaysians in Singapore, stay strong! You have all our support.
