A group of good samaritans had volunteered to clean up Pantai Jeram, Kuala Selangor, yesterday (21 September) at 8:30 am. KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd organised the International Coastal Cleanup as part of World Cleanup Day.
They had collaborated with Trash Heroes Malaysia and Reef Check Malaysia, as well as 50 volunteers from Klang Valley private colleges. In just three hours of picking up trash, the group of volunteers successfully collected 84 bags of waste, weighing a total of 751kg.

According to Sinar Harian, this project was focused on addressing solid waste disposal in public and recreational areas, as well as raising awareness on keeping the environment clean by disposing the trash properly instead of littering.
Mahfuzah Muhammad Tarmidi, the Head of Media and Public Relations of KDEB Waste Management, mentioned that approximately 103,000 Malaysian volunteers participated in the World Cleanup Day last year, and more than 250,000 volunteers are estimated to take part this year!

KDEB Waste Management had provided several RORO (Roll-on-Roll-off) bins at several locations: Pantai Jeram, Kuala Selangor; Pantai Acheh and Pantai Tanjung Piai at Pulau Indah, Klang. They stated that these bins are to facilitate the process of waste disposal, especially to accommodate large quantities of solid waste.
Great job to the volunteers who cleaned up the beach for the greater good. But we shouldn’t only rely on them for a cleaner environment. Instead, we should take part by being responsible for our waste disposals as well.
