In his latest live televised press conference to the nation concerning the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia, Minister of Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has revealed to the media that Malaysia already had plans in place to handle the Covid-19 outbreak, even before the first patient was tested positive in our nation.

This was revealed in response to a question from media, asking about whether the Ministry of Health would publish an epidemiological model for Malaysia, which will help determine how this virus will affect our healthcare services in the coming weeks.

Apparently according to Dr Noor Hisham, epidemiological models have already been conducted and are being used as guides by the Ministry, such as ARIMA modeling, SIR modeling, in order to better determine what the projection or forecast would be for the Ministry’s services.

In relation to this, Dr Noor Hisham adds that Malaysia has apparently been in a state of preparedness to handle the Covid-19 outbreak as early as December 2019, with seven hospitals listed as ‘Covid-19 Hospitals’, where they will only treat Covid-19 patients even before our country admitted its first patient on 25th January 2020.

“Remember, before we got our first patient on 25th of January, our preparations was started in December 2019.” he said.

This was made possible with the Ministry decanting its limited services and resources through meticulous planning among hospitals in the country.

How incredible is that! Which comes to show that in terms of healthcare, Malaysia really does all it can to keep us safe!
