Recently, the death of a 10-year-old in Penang who choked on an ‘eyeball’ gummy candy made headlines, with the public calling for the authorities to take action to prevent a repeat of such a tragedy.

Following the incident, it has been reported that the Ministry of Health (MOH) has taken drastic measures by directing online sales platforms to stop selling gummy candies.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, said that they are working closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to halt the sale of these candies on online platforms.

“This morning, we directed Shopee and TikTok to remove advertisements selling these gummy candies.”

“We have also instructed District Health Offices (PKD) nationwide to enforce actions at physical premises and seize any remaining products being sold, he added.
