We finally have the answer as to whether the MCO will be extended with PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement just now!

Here’s the answer to the question that a lot of us have been waiting for: Well yes, but actually no.

Briefly speaking, the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is indeed over but the MCO is not. It will now enter a new phase called the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) beginning 10 June 2020.

With lesser restrictions and the ability to travel interstate, here’s everything you need to know about the new phase of the MCO:

1. Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO): a Covid-19 exit plan

Beginning 10 June 2020, the CMCO will officially be over and it will be replaced by the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO). Here’s everything to note about the RMCO:

  1. It will be enforced from 10 June 2020 until 31 August 2020.
  2. A host of restrictions that were enforced in CMCO are now lifted.
  3. The rakyat must still abide by the given SOPs in order for the RMCO to be successful.

This recovery phase is part of the government’s exit strategy which has been implemented since the announcement of the MCO back in 18 March.

2. Downward spiral of Covid-19 infections: an ode to our frontliners

The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to our amazing frontliners as this has all been possible thanks to their sacrifices. The government decided upon the recovery phase of the MCO due to the spiralling number of Covid-19 cases lately. Here are the statistics mentioned by the PM:

  1. The infection rates among local citizens has been low and controlled.
  2. The recent spike of Covid-19 cases are actually from imported cases and from illegal migrant workers held at our Immigration Depot.
  3. Our Health Care industry remains strong and are able to treat Covid-19 spikes if they come.

Thank you to all our frontliners! We owe all of this to you. <3

3. Interstate travels are now allowed!

Starting from 10 June 2020, all interstate travels are allowed except for areas that have been put under the Enforced Movement Cotnrol Order (EMCO). That means that you no longer need any documents for interstate travel and those who are stuck in the city are now allowed to balik kampung.

However, the PM stressed that we still need to take care of our personal hygiene and to always wear a face mask in public places. This is our responsibility okay! #KitaJagaKita

4. Almost all economic sectors and activities are allowed to operate with new normal regulations

These includes:

  1. Social activities
  2. Education
  3. Religious activities
  4. Almost all economic sectors
  5. Sports such as training, non-contact sports such as bowling, badminton and even outdoor cycling and motorcycle convoys.

In short, all of the usual activities, may it be commercial or social are allowed to operate as usual in stages. However, all of these must follow with the ‘new normal’ SOPs in order to curb the re-emergence of the virus.

In fact, the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations will also be allowed given we follow the SOPs given out by the authorities!

5. Activities and premises that are still NOT allowed to return to normal

The list include:

  1. Sports activities or competitions that have mass audience, swimming and public pools, and contact sports such as rugby, boxing etc.
  2. Pubs and night clubs.
  3. Reflexology centres.
  4. Karaoke centres.
  5. Theme parks.
  6. Any other activities that involve mass gatherings.

6. Schools will be opened in stages

With the advice of MOH, the Ministry of Education has decided to open schools in stages. The detailed announcement will be made by its minister soon.

Fuuhh, that’s a lot to process! But hey, this is definitely good news to all of us! What do you guys think of the RMCO? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section!
