By now, you would’ve probably heard the official announcement made by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak about the dissolution of Parliament on 7 April 2018.
If you’re a registered voter, that’s fantastic! But due to the redelineation exercise, your polling station could be at a completely different place from before. Here are some ways you can check where your polling station is located as stated in The Malaysian Insight!
1. Use malaysiakini’s redelineation checker
Yes, malaysiakini came up with their own redelineation checker to provide the public with information about changes of electoral constituencies ahead of the Election Commission. This checker requires you to know your constituency and polling district, so if you’re unsure, check via the Election Commission website first.
Additionally, malaysiakini’s redelineation checker is currently going through an upgrade, so check back in a day or two!
2. Visit your nearest Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) branch
To find the branch closest to you, just visit their website here!
3. Download the MY SPR Semak mobile app
Yes, we’re super canggih now!
Just download the app from iTunes or Google Play and keep up to date with the latest GE-related news including names of candidates, election results as well as your registration status and polling station.
4. Visit the SPR site
The site also allows you to check on your voting status, polling station, electoral candidates and so forth. Check out the site here today!
5. Call the SPR office
Simply dial 03-8892 7018 to get connected.
6. Send out an SMS
Open a new message box and type in SPR followed by your identity card number and send it to 15888 (i.e. SPR 901212101234). They reply almost instantly! Do note that you will be charged RM0.20 for this.
Evidently, there are a number of ways to check where your polling district is and so forth, so make sure you check! Every Malaysian has been waiting for this day and now that the date is out, do your part as a fellow citizen to this country. It’s only our responsibility.
PS: To be safe, check again one week before the General Elections in case of last minute changes. Again, do your part and make sure you vote!
