Is it okay to bring pets into a restaurant? Some may find it acceptable but others may not. A recent incident involving pets in a Seremban restaurant turned hostile when a physical fight ensued.

On 17 July, a man from Hong Kong and his Malaysian wife brought 2 poodles into the said restaurant but it did not sit well with a Malaysian customer who was dining in at the time. He made sure the couple knew about his dissatisfaction by attacking the 61-year-old HK man with a plastic chair before dragging him along the floor, kicking and beating him.

The victim suffers multiple injuries on both his arms and it could’ve been worse if other patrons did not rush forward to ease the tension and stop the fight. Regardless, the matter has reached the attention of the police, and the 49-year-old Malaysian suspect has been arrested by the police at his house around 10 pm yesterday (July 19), as reported by China Press.

When asked, the suspect admitted that he was not happy to see the couple bringing dogs into the premise and his real intention was to record them with his phone before circulating it on social media. But what happened eventually was more than that.

During the incident, the wife of the victim immediately carried her dogs away from the suspect and helped her husband. Seeing how the suspect was still acting hostile, she approached the suspect and “talked some sense” into him. The suspect will be in police custody until tomorrow (July  21).

The police are currently investigating the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code (injuring with a weapon). If found guilty, the suspect can be jailed for up to 10 years or a fine with caning or both.

A short moment of outburst comes with long-term consequences. Violence and fists will never solve a problem but will only escalate the situation. Regardless, what do you think about bringing pets into a restaurant?
