Recently, a trio of Malaysian influencers went viral due to a video of them giving chicken bones to a homeless man. They later apologised and clarified that the video was staged, claiming that they had gotten permission from the homeless man before shooting the video.
“We let everyone think that we fed him chicken bones. But we did speak to the homeless man, we asked him if he could act with us. He agreed. So we acted together to shoot this video. We really did not give him chicken bones to eat; we gave him a proper meal,” one of the influencers, ALUK Durianzaiii, said.
Now, the homeless man is speaking out
Based on a report by Harian Metro, the homeless man shared that he did not expect the incident to be recorded and uploaded to social media, and that he was taken by surprise when he was given a pack of rice filled with food waste.
“I was taken aback when the 3 teenagers approached me because I was still lying down at that time and didn’t expect the package they were carrying to contain food waste. I’m not sure what their purpose was in doing that. I only became aware of the viral video after being informed by patrons of the area who were also disappointed by their actions,”
“I am not sure what my mistake was that they did that, but I only look at it positively and considered them my brothers. I forgive their actions and hope that it does not happen to other homeless people.”
He added that he did not scold the influencers but, instead, thanked them upon seeing the chicken bones, and clarified that the influencers also gave him a different package, containing proper food.
He also shared that he knows that the influencers are currently under investigation by the authorities.
“I had nothing to do with the actions taken by the authorities and have no power to stop them; that is between them and the authorities. After the incident, several residents came forward to meet me, handed me food packages and asked how I was. Some even apologised for the actions of the 3 teenagers,”
“I think the 3 teenagers are still young and have a long future ahead of them, let this issue be resolved well by the authorities,” he explained.
