A grieving Malaysian father recently went viral after claiming the doctor at a private hospital opted to freeze his deceased newborn for 2 weeks following his failure to settle the medical bill.

The doctor, who is also the founder of the private hospital, was alleged to have insulted the parents for not handling the remains of the newborn. The father of the baby also claimed that his wife who had just given birth was not treated well during her stay.

Today (December 11), the hospital has released a statement to respond to the viral claims and share its side of the story.

“They’re not married, and we gave them the permit to bury the remains of the newborn”

In a statement shared via a Facebook post, the management of the hospital said that the woman, who claimed to be unmarried had never gone through an antenatal check (pregnancy check) throughout her pregnancy.

On humanitarian grounds, the hospital decided to check on the woman who was experiencing great labour pains, despite having no appointment.

“The woman gave birth immediately in the labour room, to which the alleged husband was absent during the process. The baby, however, was born with only one eye, with the nose and anus absent.”

Unfortunately, the baby passed minutes later due to the deteriorating condition.

The mother was allowed to be discharged

The hospital further clarified that the baby’s mother was well and allowed to be discharged the following day.

On the day of her discharge, the woman was upfront about the medical bills worth RM2,480 – she couldn’t afford them. The hospital, however, allowed them to proceed with the burial first, to which the woman allegedly said,

“My husband will be arranging the burial.”

“No police, no family”

Despite the green light from the hospital to bury the deceased newborn, many days passed and the hospital’s numerous attempts to discuss the burial with the father failed.

“He came to visit the woman for a few minutes every 2 to 3 days. The woman was also treated well, with counsellings given and she mingled around with the staff.”

The hospital also suggested the woman seek help from the police or family members to help with the burial, but she insisted not to involve the authorities or any family members.

“She insisted that all decisions were up to her alleged husband, who lives in a rented room with her. She claimed to not have any relatives or friends nearby.”

The statement ends with the hospital saying it remains committed to transparency and compliance in all its transactions.

Now that both sides have shared their stories, what do you think of this? Our thoughts and condolences go to the grieving parents.
