He expressed scepticism regarding Anwar Ibrahim’s claims that he would not accept his salaries as the country’s top executive and finance minister, questioning how the Prime Minister could sustain himself.
“Unless he thinks he can get food just by wishing for it”
During his speech, Hamzah questioned the validity of Anwar’s claim about not taking his salary. He raised concerns about allowances, asking where these funds come from if Anwar is indeed receiving them.
Hamzah then joked about how food would magically appear before Anwar when he prayed for it, mentioning,
“If he truly wants to go through with it, he should announce that he’s receiving no income at all. But if he has no income, how is he going to eat? If he can pray and foom there’s rice from Kota Raja in front of him, and it’s local rice.”
“An apple would suddenly appear or an avocado”
Hamzah took another shot, this time targeting the government’s proposal to increase the sales and services tax on non-essential items in Budget 2025.
He added,
“Don’t let it be that when he prays, ‘Ya Allah, Ya Tuhanku,’ an apple suddenly appears in front of him or an avocado just drops (before Anwar).”
For those who might’ve missed the Budget 2025 announcement, avocados are among the produce that Anwar specifically noted would be taxed next year.
