A couple of months ago, a student from Johor had a nightmare of a day when he lost his luggage while travelling to Penang for the first time in his life, alone, to attend college.

Thankfully, a lecturer at the college, who received a call from the student’s father regarding his troubles, quickly jumped into action to help him.

Now, the student is getting extra help, from none other than HR Minister, Steven Sim, as he ‘adopts’ the college student.

Taking to his X page, Steven Sim wrote, “Do you remember the story of the polytechnic lecturer helping the student from Johor to further his studies in Penang? Thank you, Mr Zaidil, you won Malaysians’ hearts. I, on the other hand, am happy to have another adopted child. What a Malaysian story!”

Having met up with both the student and the lecturer who helped him, Mr Zaidil, Sim praised Mr Zaidil for going above and beyond to assist a student in trouble.

Sim then shared that, as his adopted child, the student will receive an allowance of RM200 a month to relieve any financial stress.

This isn’t the first time Steven Sim has ‘adopted’ students as he has multiple students he takes care of by providing them with laptops and other necessities for their further education.
