Recently, a clip from a live broadcast went viral, showing PETRONAS President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz, celebrating on the Formula 1 podium in Singapore last Sunday (October 5).
The CEO quickly drew public criticism after joining in the champagne-spraying celebration, according to Berita Harian.

“I did not consume any alcohol”
Tengku Muhammad Taufik has issued a public apology for what he described as a “spur-of-the-moment exuberance” while celebrating the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One (F1) team’s victory at the Singapore Grand Prix.
In his statement, he explained that the incident happened out of sheer excitement over the team’s first win of the season.
“I’d like to clarify that I did not consume any alcohol. However, as a Muslim, I recognise that I shouldn’t have taken part in that kind of celebration. I sincerely apologise for my actions, which may have unintentionally offended others, and I take full responsibility,” he said.

Tengku Muhammad Taufik added that the victory at the Singapore Grand Prix was a long-awaited achievement in the ongoing strategic partnership with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team this season.
He also expressed his honour when he was invited to receive the Winning Constructor Trophy on the team’s behalf.
“On behalf of PETRONAS, permit me to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the continued support of our participation in what is the pinnacle of motorsports competition. The successes we deliver now and in the upcoming era of sustainable fuels will indeed bear testimony to Malaysian innovation and capabilities,” he said.
