For every Malaysian who hasn’t been able to go back home for months or years due to the pandemic, you can definitely relate to this.

With the ever-fluctuating Covid-19 cases, Malaysians who live away from their hometowns have come to the sad realisation that it’s probably going to be many more months till they can finally reunite with their families once again. Twitter user Shahril (@reylchinoe) perfectly captured this by showing how he’s missed his parents and vice versa after being away for quite some time.

On 30 April, Shahril who was undergoing quarantine in Sarawak was surprised when he received a call from his parents to come to the window. To his astonishment, he found his parents outside the hotel waving as they couldn’t wait to see his face.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Shahril said he’s been away from home for almost a year and when he saw his parents out there, he felt sad and speechless at the same time. Even though he was already back in his hometown of Kuching and just had to undergo a quarantine period of 14 days before meeting his parents, his mother just couldn’t wait to see him.

“I miss seeing my parents smile and helping them out for Raya. I missed Raya for the first time last year and hearing my mother cry over the phone, broke my heart.”

Shahril added that his siblings all have their own families and live far from Kuching which made their parents miss him more. When his father underwent surgery last year, it devastated him that no one was there for his father and his mother had to learn to book e-hailing rides all by herself.

As a final note, Shahril said the pandemic has had major effects on our lives which can be stressful, overwhelming, and cause strong emotions. “I just hope that this monstrous pandemic is over and everything goes back to normal,” he said. Shahril also reminded us that from our side, all we need to do is make sure to abide by SOPs at all times.

Malaysians living away from their families, how long has it been since you visited your hometowns? Let us know in the comments!
