When we were younger, most of us would probably miss our parents whenever they had to be outstation or overseas for work. This teenage boy was missing his parents dearly too, so much so that he even went to the extent of faking his own kidnapping just so his folks would come back and he’d be able to see their faces again.

According to The Star, the 13-year-old boy was found in an abandoned truck and he was bound and gagged in the vehicle that was parked in a residential community. This incident happened on 8 May in Luzhou, Sichuan province, China.

In a police report that was lodged, the boy said someone had sprayed him with something at a crossroad and he subsequently passed out. Following that, all he allegedly remembers is waking up in the van. That said, the boy was unharmed and nothing on him was stolen. On top of that, police had zero clue on who the kidnapper may be.

The cops then had a long chat with the boy, asking him about his family. Only then did the boy finally admit that he actually faked his own kidnapping, hoping that the staged act would result in his parents coming home. He told a police officer,

“I missed dad and mum.”

Aww!

The boy further explained that he had not seen his parents – both of whom happen to be migrant workers – since Chinese New Year, which was back in late January. Currently, he lives with his grandparents but both of them are also busy working; his granddad is often preoccupied with several odd jobs while his grandmother spends her time working in the fields.

If you’re asking yourself – why couldn’t the boy just phone his folks and tell them to come back because he misses them? Well, the boy already knew that if he did so, it would not be enough for his parents to return home. Hence, he resorted to the self-kidnap strategy.

As of now, it’s uncertain whether his parents had returned as there was no mention of this in the police report.

Apparently, this isn’t the first time that kids in China have tried to ‘kidnap themselves’ as there have been other cases where children or teens would do the same to get attention from their parents who are either working outstation, or are separated. After all, there are many parents in the country who tend to travel to bigger cities for both better pay and work opportunities.

What do you think of this boy’s idea of kidnapping himself to get his parents to come back? What’s the furthest you’ve went to get your parents’ attention as a kid? Sound off in the comments.
