Apart from the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, multiple areas in Selangor were also affected by the floods following continuous downpour, including Hulu Langat.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Hulu Langat, Mohd Sany Hamzan, was recently accused of being occupied with karaoke in Sabah when his constituency was affected by the disaster.

Yes, Sany did not deny the karaoke session, but was strongly against the claim that he ignored his constituents in Hulu Langat affected by floods.

“I only sang a song, which was requested by the people”

In a video, which circulated on Facebook and TikTok, the Hulu Langat MP was accused of being busy with a karaoke session in Sabah during the 2025 Sabah State Election campaign period. Sany responded by saying that he only sang one song by Datuk Jamal Abdillah.

He also said that he was requested to sing a song because the locals said that “he had a good voice”.

“Yes, I sang a song at the Sulabayan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area on 22 November.”

“However, I sang the song in front of the crowds. Not with other ladies at 2 or 3 in the morning,” Sany said in a press conference in Parliament yesterday (25 November).

Sany did not ignore the flood victims in Hulu Langat

Hulu Langat was struck by the flood on 24 November, and Sany said that upon learning about the disaster, he took the flight back to Selangor from Sabah at around 10 AM before visiting Parliament in the evening, and then continued his way to Hulu Langat.

He said he had met with residents and inspected the flood situation as well as two temporary evacuation centres (PPS), namely at Batu 10 and Kampung Sungai Serai.

As for the defamatory remarks by the circulating posts, Sany said he chose to forgive them, and reminded others that he is not into playing politics. He urged all parties to work together to help the people facing the flood disaster and to pray for their safety.

“The Government has approved almost RM512 million for the Sungai Langat flood mitigation project. I hope this project can be expedited for the well-being of the residents of Hulu Langat who are frequently hit by floods,” stressed the Hulu Langat MP.

In the meantime, you can browse through the official website of the Malaysian Welfare Department (JKM) to get an update on the current flood situation in the country.
