It’s been seven years since UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) were in charge of the government, and according to UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, many Malaysians are starting to miss their leadership.
He said this sentiment came from various sources and believes UMNO and BN have a strong chance to make a comeback in the 16th General Election (GE16).
“Previously, many wanted Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak imprisoned. Now, those same people miss Najib’s leadership style, especially his initiatives to help the poor and middle-income groups.”
Mohamad sees this shift in public opinion as a positive sign, but he urged party members to start working now to turn that momentum into votes.
“Looking at this momentum, I see a chance for us in the next election. But I urge all delegates to start working now so that this momentum translates into actual results,” he said.
Speaking at the UMNO Kuala Langat Division delegates’ meeting at Dewan Sri Jugra, he reminded everyone of BN’s strong track record, governing 13 times, with the last term ending in 2018. He highlighted their achievements in managing the economy and helping the people.
Mohamad also called for a shift in mindset across all levels of the party, from leaders to grassroots members, emphasising teamwork and party-first thinking.
“Whatever actions we take must be for the party, not for personal gain. I won my seats (Rembau Parliament and Rantau State Assembly) under the party’s banner, not because I’m exceptional.”
“So we must work together and strategise to win the Kuala Langat parliamentary seat if UMNO contests there again,” he stressed.
