It’s the start of 2020, which means it’s back to school season for the kids. While some parents are more than ready to send their noisy children back to learning, not all are fortunate enough to afford school supplies for their children.

Recently, a 29-year-old mother by the name of Atika Mohsen, shared the struggle of lying to her kids because she didn’t want to disappoint them with the heartbreak of not being able to afford new school uniforms for them to wear at the start of the academic year.
“I used to lie to my children, saying that I couldn’t find school clothes in their size because I have no money to buy new ones,” said the mother in a statement to Harian Metro.
Sadly, Atika isn’t the only mum who shares this struggle. Another 38-year-old single mother, Azniyah Abu, whose husband passed away last year, also said, “I have six children and five of them are still in school. I didn’t want to buy new school uniforms or supplies for them but it had to be done since the kids are going to high school this year.”

“Some of them have changed their size, so I have to buy new clothes for them too.”
Thankfully however, the Malaysian Islamic Consultative Council (MAPIM)’s ‘Back2Schools 2020’ programme immediately extended their help when they heard the heartbreaking stories of these unfortunate mothers.
Atika said, “I thank MAPIM for fulfilling my children’s dreams of having new clothes come true. Nothing makes a mother happier than when she sees her child smile after wearing their new school uniform.”
On the other hand, Azniyah, the widowed single mother also said, “Praise God, thankfully there is someone willing to provide schooling equipment to my children last minute.”

Atika and Azniyah are just two of the 200 recipients that have benefited from ‘Back2Schools 2020’. Programme director, Muhammad Faris Hussain, said that while it was their first time giving financial aid for school supplies to the poor and disadvantaged, “if we have the opportunity and ability, we will make this programme an annual activity.”
Most of us don’t realise just how much our parents sacrifice for us to make sure we have food on the table and clothes to wear every day. Always be thankful! What do you guys think of this?
