A woman in her 40s recently tried to buy drugs from a man in Pattaya’s Jomtien area in Thailand, not knowing the man was undercover.
The woman had no idea that the man was an undercover police officer who was on a drug crackdown mission in the area.
Deputy Inspector Prasit Boonprasit, who played the dual role of the fake drug dealer and the leader of an anti-drug unit, was approached by the woman who wanted to buy “ice” – a narcotics term for crystal methamphetamine. Prasit cracked a joke before the real crackdown.
He offered the woman a literal block of ice.
“Not this ice! I want the kind that you can smoke!” The woman told Prasit.
The woman also gestured for Prasit to lower his voice and reassured him, saying, “It’s fine, it’s the work-hard drug.”
This time, the backup officers arrived, but the persistent woman did not give up as she continued to make a deal with Prasit. A moment later, she realised she had dug her own grave when the officers, including Deputy Prasit, revealed their identities.
She was arrested and brought back to the police station for a drug test, alongside a drug dealer who was also arrested in the area.
The Thai government takes drug-related crimes seriously
The operation was conducted on May 23 as part of the government’s effort to eliminate the drug community. Areas Jomtien Sois 2, 3, and 4 were patrolled, and according to Prasit, the operation aimed to send a stern message to those involved in narcotics.
“This operation sends a clear message that drug dealers and users will face serious consequences.”
“We urge the public to stay away from these dangerous substances.”
