Despite his public apology following the viral video that showed him playfully recording himself during the national anthem, PDRM is now investigating Malaysian singer and YouTuber, Zhu Haoren, over the incident.
Haoren recently found himself under fire for filming himself and his friends during the recitation of Negaraku at an event before he issued an apology.
After lodging a police report, the PKR Selayang Youth Division said that PDRM in the Gombak district is now investigating the incident under Section 8(2) of the National Anthem Act 1968, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, reported Sin Chew.
If found guilty, Haoren may face a jail term of not more than 1 year, or a fine of not more than RM50,000, or both.

In the latest update by Haoren last night (August 12), which he made through his social media post, Haoren said it was his first time attending an event in which everyone sang the national anthem together. Influencers and celebrities were on their feet for Negaraku, and Haoren wanted to capture the rare excitement and share the happiness during the moment, which, according to him, was mistaken for a form of disrespect.
“I never had the intention to disrespect the national anthem.”
“My action has caused concern among many Malaysians, and I want to sincerely apologise for this matter.”
Haoren also said that he had provided his statement to the MCMC yesterday evening and is ready to face the consequences of his actions. The singer also said that he has always been a patriotic Malaysian, and added that he will be cautious in the future when it comes to the national anthem.
