The viral labour hospital in Klang recently clarified that they froze the deceased infant while waiting for the father to come and pick up the remains for burial. The management of the hospital also claimed that the father had been missing in action for days.
The 22-year-old father, Safwan Roshdy, shared his side of the story and said he visited the hospital every day to pick up the remains of his deceased baby Adham but was allegedly stopped by the hospital.
“I told them I would pay for the medical bills, but I needed to wait for my salary.”
Safwan works in a factory in Shah Alam.
The man also said that his wife had never planned to give birth in a private hospital, but things happened unexpectedly when she was sent by someone else to the hospital. Safwan was on duty when his wife experienced labour pain, and he was rushed to the private hospital from work.
“My baby was active and cried like a normal infant despite his abnormalities. Not long after, the doctor told me the baby expired due to shortness of breath.”
“I wanted to bury the remains of my baby, but they didn’t allow me because I haven’t settled my bills.”
Safwan said he couldn’t do anything until he met the funeral service provider who had helped him settle the bill. He also confirmed with the media that he is legally married to his wife, and the misunderstanding about their marriage status may have occurred due to his wife’s lack of the pink book (pregnancy record).
On the night of December 12, Malaysian lawyer Datuk Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar held a press conference with Safwan and said they would take action against the labour hospital in Klang. A police report had also been lodged.
