We’re online most of the time nowadays thus cyber safety is extremely important. Irresponsible hackers are just waiting for any sensitive information to leak and begin their “phishing”. Phishing is an attempt to obtain sensitive information or data, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by disguising oneself as a “trustworthy entity” in an electronic communication.
PDRM’s Cyber Crime Alert alerted netizens over the latest phishing trend which can be used to take over your Instagram account. A fake Instagram account with the handle @Igcommunityportal will message you saying that your account has violated Instagram’s copyright.

You will also receive a message asking you to fill up a form to avoid your account from getting deleted.
If you click on the link, you will be asked to fill your Instagram and email account details.
You will even receive a “results” notification saying that your account has passed the copyrights notice. If you observe, the “notice” is littered with spelling errors and contains suspicious language.
Here’s what PDRM says you should do if you find yourself in this situation:
- Do not respond to the given link. It will ask you to enter the details of your Instagram account login information that is your Username and Password. Then, it will ask you to enter your Email Address and Password login details.
- This is a form of Phishing using your social media account login information which targets Instagram users with less IT knowledge through a deceiving script from Facebook/Instagram.
- After a user submits their information login details, the Hacker will get the information and use it to take over your account.
Be extra careful on the Internet nowadays. You never know, there’s a predator lurking EVERYWHERE!
