“Judge, I beg you. Please forgive my sins. This is the last time.”
54-year-old Hishamudin Kumaran Abdullah pleaded for forgiveness from the Johor Bahru Sessions Court yesterday (14 November), as he is now facing up to 20 years behind bars and strokes of caning.
The man is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy at a Surau in Pontian, Johor, by touching his private part.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin, in her submission, said that solid evidence, CCTV footage, has shown the accused and the minor victim at the scene. Nur Farah also disagreed with bail for the accused, despite knowing that the court has the right to consider it.
Nur Farah also highlighted to the court that this wasn’t Hishamudin’s first offence, as he had previous criminal records between 1993 to 2008, including cases under Section 354 of the Penal Code for sexual assault.
For this latest case, he was accused of committing an offence punishable under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792).
Nur Farah believed that there was a possibility of the accused committing the same act again if he was given bail.
“I am homeless and I have no one else”
Hishamudin, on the other hand, was not represented. When asked to make a bail appeal, Hishamuddin told the court that he is now on his own, and he has no one else to rely on, as well as pointing out that he is now a person with disabilities (OKU).
“Everyone has abandoned me. I’m living in mosques, and I pray now. I am jobless, and I am now an OKU.”
“My legs are disabled, and my vision is partially impaired as I can’t see with one of my eyes.”
Earlier, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirmed that the police received a report about the matter from the victim’s father, reported Sinar Harian.
The matter has been set for a re-mention on 16 January 2026.
