While many around the world find themselves stranded away from their families and hometowns due to travel restrictions, there are some who are finding alternative routes in order to avoid roadblocks so that they can go home.

According to Jabar news, Indonesians are opting to use rafts services at several rivers in order to avoid police roadblocks, so that they can travel home for Hari Raya.

“The use of boats and rafts have become an alternative for residents, as compared to crossing the Manganti bridge,” shared Sidaharja Village head, Maman Suparman, adding that there are a total of five rivers that provide small boat services and routes that allow residents to return to their hometowns.

However, this isn’t exactly a new tactic as these waterways have always been used by residents and outsiders alike, to get to their destinations quickly.

“Especially at this time, it must be getting more crowded because many are avoiding roadblocks and operations,”

“In fact, the operating hours have now increased to 24 hours. So, the travellers don’t have to worry about whatever time they want to travel,” he added.

They might not have to worry about the timing, but they should still worry about potentially carrying Covid-19 back to their hometowns.

Festive celebrations can always be carried out after the case numbers have gone down. It’s best not to risk potential infections where elderly parents are most vulnerable.
