Ever since the Movement Control Order began, it’s disappointing to say that we saw another shade of Malaysians. Social media has been ablaze with anger over headlines showing Malaysians who were panic hoarding and also those who purposely disobeyed the MCO for no apparent reason. However, during these trying times, this lecturer showed us that our true strength lies in our willingness to help others without any expectations.

Adrian Lee, a lecturer from Sunway University posted this message on Facebook requesting that interns who are not getting paid during the MCO seek him out for a meal and some money for groceries and necessities.

Dear Comm School USM interns. If you're not getting paid during these 2 weeks, do you have enough money to buy food etc?…

It’s simply amazing that he’s willing to go out of his way to help students who are doing their internships. The best part is he offered this to Universiti Sains Malaysia students despite not being their lecturer anymore. WORLD OF BUZZ contacted Adrian to ask what prompted him to make this extremely generous request.

“Hmmm…being someone who loves eating, I love buying food, sharing food and cooking for others. I do not like to see people go hungry. Especially students. I understand how much or little money students have when they’re studying and what more when they have to be in KL and receiving a small allowance during their internship.”

He added that his office was always stocked with food and his students even know that whenever they’re hungry, they can just stop by and he’d share his food with them. Adrian, who’s currently with the Department of Film and Performing Arts, School of Arts, Sunway University said that at the end of the day we simply need to remember that we have to treat everyone equally as “human beings” and with the greatest respect, love and kindness regardless of who we are, where we come from etc.

In the end, Adrian added simply that another reason he thought of posting that message was that during these trying times, we’re bombarded with bad news almost on a daily basis so he wanted something wholesome on the timeline instead! He wanted his message to be a message of goodwill, kindness and hope that will hopefully help us go through this dark period together.

During these difficult days, we need more people like Adrian to remind us that humanity is not lost. Well, the first step begins with us of course. He even showed us how that even with social distancing, you can still try your best to help others. Kudos and never stop being you, Adrian!
