An Ipoh City Council (MBI) member decided to take matters into his own hands by marking potholes and damaged roads to help prevent more accidents.
Zone 1 Hulu Kinta Council Member, Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman, said he did it after witnessing a food delivery rider crash right in front of his office after hitting a pothole, according to Sinar Harian.

He marked potholes using white and red spray paint
Mazlan added that the areas identified with potholes and damaged roads include Bandar Baru Putra, Taman Perpaduan, and Ipoh Garden.
“I started noticing just how many potholes around Ipoh go unchecked and most only get patched up after someone complains. I decided to take the initiative and mark these dangerous spots myself. I even marked a stretch near two schools recently, and there had already been an accident there involving a student on a motorcycle. I don’t want to wait for something worse to happen,” he said.
So far, he’s marked potholes using white and red spray paint in a few areas under his watch, including Bandar Baru Putra, Taman Perpaduan, and Ipoh Garden.
“I hope other council members will do the same”
Mazlan said the move wasn’t just about safety, but also to make it easier for MBI and concessionaire Punca Emas Infra Sdn Bhd to quickly spot and fix damaged roads.
He also plans to bring this idea to the full MBI meeting, hoping other council members will do the same in their areas for the sake of residents’ safety.
“Every time I mark a pothole or damaged road, I post a photo and the location on Facebook so the concessionaire and MBI can take action faster. It might not be part of my job, but I believe the safety of road users, especially motorcyclists, is more important because accidents can cost lives,” he said.
