We all know that people coming into Malaysia in the midst of the pandemic are required to wear a pink wrist band to indicate that they are people under surveillance (PUS). However, in the past few days, there have been a few pictures of several PUS defying their mandatory self-quarantine.

One of the most viral ones was a woman who seems to be enjoying a cup of coffee at Bandar Meru Raya, Ipoh. Netizens were outraged as it seems like the woman was not taking the whole pandemic seriously and it has quickly spread to the authorities.

In the most recent update, the woman was said to have been identified and she tested positive for Covid-19. The 72-year-old is now hospitalised in Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, reported Sinar Harian.

The elderly woman was instructed to go through 14 days of self-quarantine after arriving at KLIA on 4th July. Her first swab at the airport showed that she was negative for Covid-19.

The image that went viral on social media platforms was actually taken on 6th July when the woman and her family went back to Ipoh from Selangor. They decided to stop for breakfast before going back home to self-quarantine.

However, 13 days after the self-quarantine, the woman was found to be Covid-19 positive and she has been in the hospital ever since 17th July. Her son had also tested positive during the second swab test.

It is said that the Covid-19 virus in the woman is of a small quantity and so the chance of infecting others is not that high as well.

As the daily number of cases seem to be increasing day by day and with instances like this, the government has made it compulsory for people coming into Malaysia to go through a mandatory 14-day quarantine starting from 24th July.
