With the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel right now, many statements can be sensitive especially when it involves the lives of victims of war. Politician Jimmy Puah was recently accused in Parliament for being a supporter of Israel just because of a social media post.
Arau MP, Shahidan Kassim mentioned the lost lives in Palestine recently before publicly accusing Jimmy, Tebrau MP of being Israel’s supporter.
“Palestinian children are dying and so far, we have only heard 1 voice – YB Tebrau’s support for Israel.”
Jimmy immediately denied Shahidan’s claims and assured the Parliament that he had voiced his solidarity with Palestine on social media. Shahidan’s claims are due to a social media post by Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress known for her role as Wonder Woman who recently posted on Instagram and said, “I stand with Israel.”
Jimmy got dragged down the claim when he was spotted liking the post by Gal Gadot. He continued to deny the claim in Parliament, saying it’s defamation, and requested Shahidan to retract his statement, to which he did. Just yesterday (November 6), Shahidan once again brought up the matter and asked Jimmy to be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Freedoms Committee.
“How long do I have to wait for the results?” Shahidan asked.
In the meantime, Jimmy once again shared his solidarity with Palestine on his official Facebook account and assured that he is, in no way, condoning the acts of the regime in Israel.
“I stand with PM Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s stand against the genocide in Palestine,” Jimmy said.
Jimmy also took the opportunity to remind the opposition members NOT to take advantage of the situation in Gaza for political purposes.
