JPJ issued summons related to tinted windows to multiple during a roadblock near the Subang Airport recently.
In an operation known as OPS Cermin Gelap, many drivers who were stopped at the roadblock pretended to be unaware of the rules about tinted windows. Some drivers also said they tinted their windows to shield themselves against the hot weather.
A few also claimed that their vehicles came in tinted windows during the purchase.
Regardless of their reasons, JPJ officers issued summonses for the offences.
“A total of 118 vehicles of various types were inspected. The use of tinted windows is the main offence, in addition to not having a driving license, and expired driving licenses and road tax,” said the Director of JPJ Selangor, Azrin Borhan.
He also said that the awareness regarding the use of tinted windows is still low among road users.
“This offence can result in the driver or registered vehicle owner being fined for not more than RM2,000 or imprisoned not more than 6 months for the 1st offence.”
In an official statement, Azrin said the operation was held to ensure that drivers and vehicle owners comply with the regulations, especially regarding the use of tinted windows that have been specified.
In case you are not aware, the permitted rate of tinted window usage is 70% light transparency for the front windshield and 50% light transparency for the front side windows on the left and right of the vehicle.
