Who would be heartless enough to harm these innocent animals?!
For the past week or so, images of dead fishes floating at the Damansara River have been going viral on social media. Following this, the Environmental Department has reassured that they will be continuing their investigations including conducting inspections at several factories to identify the cause of the death of hundreds of fish.
Astro Awani reported that the Selangor Environmental Department Director Nor Aziah Jaafar said the department traced the upstream and downstream parts of the river and focused on potential sources of pollution within 10km from where the fish were found dead.
She added that the inspections involved the investigation of some beverage and food-based factories, commercial centres, stormwater discharge from residential areas and two public sewage treatment plants. Based on the investigation, the dead fishes were identified to be urban fish species Hypostomus plecostomus and black tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) stranded along 5km of the river.
Nor Aziah urged members of the public with any information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation. She also stressed that the Environmental Department does not compromise with environmental criminals.
