Over the past few weeks, two books detailing the events surrounding the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal have piqued the interest of Malaysians and others all over the world. Rewcastle Brown’s ‘The Sarawak Report: The Inside Story of the 1MDB Expose’ was reported to have sold 5,000 copies so far, while ‘Billion Dollar Whale‘ by Wall Street Journal journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope is selling fast within its first week.
On top of that, investigations are currently underway, as the authorities are on the hunt for Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho (aka Jho Low), who has been accused of being heavily involved in the 1MDB scandal.

Now, in effort to clear his name, Jho Low has just launched a website where users can access legal documents and public statements regarding the accusations against him. An excerpt from a letter Jho Low wrote on his website reads,
“For the past several years, I have been subject to a series of allegations across the globe in relation to the operations of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (“1MDB”), a strategic investment and development company wholly-owned by the Government of Malaysia.”
“Many of the allegations have originated from blog posts, improper leaks from within Governmental agencies around the world, or unproven allegations filed in court, where I have never been afforded an opportunity to set the record straight.”
“My goal is to provide a balanced view of the allegations and the truth behind these matters. Obviously, I have opinions regarding the rule of law, political corruption in Malaysia, and the fairness and justice of this process, and I will make those clear.”
“But I will also provide court documents, excerpts from media reports, and other materials that at least attempt to restore balance to what has become a global media circus.”

Maintaining his innocence, Jho Low acknowledged that he has made mistakes in the past, but the current allegations against him were untrue.
“Let me be clear: I am innocent. With hindsight I may have done things differently, like any young person, but any mistakes I made do not amount to the sweepingly broad and destructive allegations being made against me.”
He ended his letter, urging the public and authorities to keep an open mind until all the evidence is brought to light.
