Looks like there’s a huge number of job openings in Malaysia Airlines, y’all!
According to Free Malaysia Today, Malaysia Airlines Sdn Bhd (MAS) is looking for 150 more pilots to reportedly stabilise its operations by early 2019. MAS currently has 927 pilots.
The airline’s CEO, Izham Ismail, MAS has already recruited 62 pilots. He explained why they were on the lookout for so many pilots, saying,
“Retirement, attrition, pilots finding better opportunities, all of these continue, hence, Malaysia Airlines requires replacements and recruitment of new pilots.”

He added that MAS has already suffered a shortage of pilots during the mid-second quarter of 2018.
However, Malaysia Airlines isn’t the only airline facing a shortage of pilots, as the CEO said that Qantas, Qatar, and Cathay Pacific are also on the same boat. He added that Delta Airlines had also recently announced that they were in need of 8,000 new pilots.
The national carrier has been undergoing an organisational revamping after laying off 6,000 of their staff back in 2015 and is in the midst of hiring more people.

Earlier in February this year, the airline told The Edge Markets in a statement, saying,
“Malaysia Airlines recently began a recruitment drive for pilots and cabin crew to fulfil current operational needs. Since 2016, the airline has expanded its network by adding several destinations and increasing frequency, as well as up-gauging its services to wide-body operations.”
