Mat Rempit is a problem that the government has been trying to eradicate for quite some time now. It’s okay if they don’t danger others but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
A police volunteer in Jalan Hashim, Kluang, Johor was injured after getting hit by a mat rempit during the Ops Motosikal (a special task force to watch out for reckless motorcycle riders) on 15 September around 11pm.
Harian Metro reported that the 35-year-old victim has been admitted in Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom (HEBHK), Kluang. Acting Kluang District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said, the incident occurred during the operation of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, District Police Headquarters (IPD), Kluang from 10pm to 12am.
The incident happened when the mat rempit decided to make a sudden U-Turn after he panicked looking at the police roadblock. When the motorist attempted to do that, the victim was unable to avoid it causing a collision and both the victim and the perpetrator fell down.
The mat rempit managed to run away but was fortunately managed to be apprehended by the police shortly after. The motorist, Abdul Razak, who is in his 20s, also sustained injuries on the left and right side of his arms.
The perpetrator was brought to the police station for his statement and for further actions to be taken.
This is how one person’s selfish act and reckless behaviour severely affects another person. Selfish behaviour is the very last thing we need as we’re battling a pandemic. We hope the victim makes a full recovery and will be able to resume his duties soon after.
