Previously, we shared how our country’s first glow-in-the-dark road markings in Semenyih were a huge hit with Malaysians, with many urging for it to be expanded nationwide.

Well, if you’re residing in Johor, your wish has just been granted as the state today officially unveiled its first glow-in-the-dark road markings in Masai.

Furthermore, the Johor State Government has also pledged to expand the usage of glow-in-the-dark markings throughout the state under Johor Budget 2024, with emphasis on roads without lamp posts.

According to the official Johor State Government press MEDIA DIGITAL JOHOR, the honour of the first glow-in-the-dark road markings in the state goes to the Sungai Masai Bridge, an alternative route connecting the cities of Johor Bahru and Pasir Gudang.

The Johor Public Works Department just finished upgrading works on the bridge, which include the aforementioned glow-in-the-dark road markings that cost RM10,000.

The Johor Works, Transport and Infrastructure Executive Committee Chairman Ir. Ts. Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said that the upgrading works were actually delayed since 2020 due to the pandemic but have since been finished.

We can expect more of the glow-in-the-dark road markings in Johor next year as the State Government has allocated RM1 million specifically for upgrading existing roads with the glow-in-the-dark paint lines.

Exciting stuff! Let’s hope that other State Governments, as well as the Federal Government, will also implement such a measure in the near future.
