Picture this, you’re a patient at the back of an ambulance on your way to a hospital only for the ambulance to get stopped and seized by Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers for the medical vehicle not having valid road tax and insurance for 13 years now.

That’s exactly what happened to a patient at the back of an ambulance in Ipoh, Perak. The good news? The officers allowed the ambulance to send the patient to a hospital first before seizing the medical vehicle.

JPJ Negeri Perak took to their Facebook page to share this incident that took place on Tuesday (28 November).

They wrote, “An ambulance was detained and the result of a check through JPJ’s Smart Enforcement Device (SmED) found that their LKM (road tax) had expired and there was no insurance protection.”

“During the inspection, there was a patient in the ambulance to be sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh. The JPJ officers ordered the ambulance to send the patient to the hospital first and then take the ambulance to Perak State JPJ for further examination.”

It turns out that the ambulance’s road tax and insurance had expired on 3 March, 2010, which is a good 13 years ago. The medical vehicle is owned by an emergency rescue service agency.
