A recent memo by the Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ) has gone viral, stating that there will be no physical road tax for private vehicles starting from April 18.

According to a Facebook post by ARroadtax.my, the issue came to light when the supplier’s (PKN) hologram printing machine broke down. The repair is expected to take about 2 weeks.

JPJ has only 40,000 physical slips left

As of April 16, 2025, JPJ’s main storage only has 40,000 physical Motor Vehicle License (LKM) slips left.

Because of this, the JPJ Director-General has agreed for the Vehicle Licensing Division to implement short-term steps to manage the use of physical LKM slips.

From April 18 to May 18, Malaysian citizens renewing private vehicle road tax can only do it digitally (eLKM), with no physical printouts unless they’re planning to travel abroad.

JPJ kiosks will limit slip printing

After May 18, anyone who wants a physical copy of the LKM slip can bring their transaction receipt for printing.

Meanwhile, other categories such as non-citizen private owners, company-owned vehicles, commercial vehicles, and goods transport (which don’t have a digital display on the MyJPJ app) will still be allowed to print the physical LKM slip.

The Director of Vehicle Licensing mentioned that printing LKM slips at JPJ kiosks will be limited during this period.

“LKM renewals at kiosks should be done digitally without printing. State-level KBLs must report their LKM stock to HQ daily throughout this control period. We’re also working on fixing the LKM slip supply issue as quickly as possible, along with a long-term solution,” he added.
