The Road Transport Department (JPJ) recently announced that it has seized a total of 101 luxury vehicles under ‘Ops Luxury’, an integrated nationwide special operation targeting luxury vehicles that violate laws on the road.
Taking to its official Facebook page, JPJ shared that its director-general, Dato’ Aedy Fadly bin Ramli, yesterday (24 June) inspected the seized luxury vehicles at JPJ Kuala Lumpur’s depot.
Ops Luxury: JPJ seized 101 luxury vehicles for various offences
The department added that the 101 luxury vehicles seized include Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Porsche Cayenne, BMW 530E, Lotus Elise S, Toyota Alphard, Toyota Vellfire and Mercedes-Benz.
Moreover, the luxury vehicles and their owners were found to be in violation of the Road Transport Act 1987 for offences such as:
- Expired Motor Vehicle License (LKM)
- No valid insurance coverage
- Expired driving license or no valid driving license
- Displaying a plate registration number of another vehicle
- Mismatch of the chassis number with what was registered in the JPJ system
- Using a fake trade plate number
Among the luxury vehicles seized is a popular female Malaysian celebrity’s Porsche
Meanwhile, Aedy Fadly was quoted by Harian Metro as saying that among the 101 luxury vehicles seized was a Porsche owned by a popular female Malaysian celebrity. However, the identity of the individual wasn’t revealed.
The JPJ director-general said that the department seized the actress and entrepreneur’s Porsche for a road tax offence and an expired insurance.
Besides that, Aedy Fadly also gave a breakdown of the number of luxury vehicles seized according to states, which are:
- Kuala Lumpur – 17 vehicles
- Selangor – 17 vehicles
- Penang – 14 vehicles
- Perak – 11 vehicles
- Johor – 10 vehicles
- Kedah – 9 vehicles
- Pahang – 5 vehicles
- Melaka – 5 vehicles
- Negeri Sembilan – 4 vehicles
- Terengganu – 2 vehicles
- Sabah – 2 vehicles
- Sarawak – 1 vehicle
- Perlis – 1 vehicle
JPJ stressed that Ops Luxury is a clear signal from the department that it doesn’t compromise with any parties that fail to adhere to the laws on the road.
The department thus urged all vehicle owners to be more responsible by ensuring their documents and driving licenses are up to date and valid.
