Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier today. He will be charged tomorrow at the Special Corruption Court in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow (7 August 2020), according to a statement released by MACC.

Lim is charged under Section 16(a)(A) and Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. The court sessions will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Special Corruption Court at 9am tomorrow (7 August 2020) and Penang Sessions Court at 9am on 10 August 2020 respectively.

These two allegations are in connection with the undersea tunnel project in Penang.

Meanwhile, he will also be charged for another case (which is unspecified) under Section 23 MACC Act 2009  by the MACC on 11 August 2020 at the Penang Sessions Court.

According to Awani, he arrived at the MACC headquarters at 9:10pm today (6 August 2020). He had been called several times by the MACC in the recent weeks for investigations on the undersea tunnel and highway project that costs RM6.3 billion.

The project is a part of the Penang Transport Master Plan that was suggested by the Penang government to ease up traffic congestion. The tunnel is 7.2km and will connect the Pangkor Road on the island to Bagan Ajam in Butterworth.
