A couple of days ago, Malaysians shared their dissatisfaction over the government’s choice to bring in foreign nurses to “meet career needs”. They questioned why the government would rather bring in foreign nurses than champion local ones who are working themselves to the bone to care for their patients.
Now, a local hospital’s note to the patients at the hospital they work at is breaking hearts everywhere, further shedding light into just how horrible the working conditions are for doctors and nurses in Malaysia.
Content creator, Syahid Said, took to his Facebook page to showcase the note that was shared to him, believed to have been seen at Hospital Kulim, Kedah. The note highlights how short-staffed and tired the doctors at the hospital are, and urges the general public to be patient as they are doing everything they can to accommodate everyone.
The note read, “Good morning. Our apologies, we are experiencing a shortage of doctors. The wait time to see a doctor may be up to 5 hours. Our doctors are working until they pass out. 8 are sick but are still working. There are some who have resigned and are moving to private hospitals.”
“We want to be in service to the people. But, we are humans too. We can get tired and get sick. We hope that everyone understands. Our apologies.”
It is truly saddening to know that our doctors and nurses, who were championed during the Covid-19 pandemic as frontline heroes, are now being abandoned to fend for themselves in such work conditions.
We genuinely hope that the authorities up their game when it comes to taking care of the doctors and nurses who, in turn, take care of us.
