Times are undeniably tough, but life has to go on.

The flood in Kelantan has shown a slight improvement, but the water has yet to recede completely. Regardless, a man in the state has decided NOT to rest and carried on with his business at his fruit stall. The flood in the state has not deterred his will to resume his business operation.

Some of us may think that operating a business outside in the flood is not a wise idea, but 73-year-old Rami Ismail saw no other option but to get on his feet to work as he has a family to support.

Rami is aware of the consequences and despite knowing that he might not gain as much as he usually does, he is still keen on his decision to work during the flood.

His decision to continue working amidst the flood is also due to the fact that fruits do not have a longer shelf life, which would be a huge waste if they were not sold before they expire.

“This road was busy prior to the flood as many dropped by to shop. Now, many are still here to play with the flood water.”

Rami, who has no other jobs did not deny that things are tough but expressed his gratitude that the rental has been maintained at only RM84 per month.

“I may not make that much during the flood, but that’s what I can give my wife and my grandsons, for now,” he said.

Astro Awani reported that Rami also refused to be moved to the temporary evacuation center (PPS), despite his house being among the severely affected houses. He told the media that he has concerns regarding theft at home, as well as no one to oversee the house if he is moved to the PPS.

Rami operates his fruit stall from 10am to 6pm at Kampung Cherang Melintang, Kelantan.

To the affected victims in Eastern Malaysia, stay strong and our thoughts and prayers are with you. As for Rami, stay safe and we hope that his business will be back booming soon.
